Introducing Transitions® GEN S™ Lenses, the new photochromic lens that gives you both clear prescription glasses and sunglasses, all in one pair.

Have you ever gotten all the way to the grocery store and realised you had forgotten your prescription glasses at home, so you were stuck with wearing your sunglasses inside?

If this sounds like you, Transitions® might be the perfect solution, giving you ease of mind with one less thing to worry about.

What are Transitions® lenses?

Transitions® lenses are photochromic lenses with a premium anti-reflective coating that are completely clear indoors or in low-light scenarios, and automatically adapt and darken with exposure to UV light.

Transitions® lenses and photochromic lenses are essentially the same thing. The main difference is that Transitions® is a brand name and type of photochromic lens manufactured by Transitions Optical Limited.

With the constant evolution of lens technology, these lenses make it possible for one pair of glasses to serve as both prescription glasses and sunglasses, seamlessly adapting to most light conditions, with limited activation in cars.

Known for their rapid response to changes in light, Transitions® offer a versatile and convenient option for glasses wearers, providing adaptive vision correction, visual comfort and UV protection in a single pair of glasses.

DID YOU KNOW?

Transitions® GEN S™ lenses darken to a category 3 level of darkness in only 25 seconds.

How do Transitions® GEN S™ lenses work?

Transitions® GEN S™ lenses contain molecules that undergo a chemical reaction when exposed to UV light, most commonly from sunlight.

Without UV light exposure, like when you’re inside for example, these molecules return to their original state and the lenses are completely clear.

These ultra-dynamic lenses are very responsive and are Transitions® best and most advanced model yet, switching from clear to dark faster than before, providing you with better vision quality.

transitions gen S

The strength of the tint of this new photochromic lens depends on the intensity of the UV light.

If it’s a cloudy day, the lenses adjust to the low light conditions and adapt to the level of protection your eyes need. The brighter the sunlight, the darker the lenses will become.

In comparison to previous Transitions® lenses, Transitions® GEN S™ lenses darken to category 3.

This means that in optimal conditions, these lenses can reach a darker tint level in bright sunlight than previous generations, providing more protection against UV light.

How do Transitions® GEN S™ lenses differ from regular lenses?

The main difference between Transitions® GEN S™ lenses and regular prescription lenses is in the adaptive photochromic technology.

These lenses make it possible to combine your everyday prescription lenses with your sunglasses so there’s no need to switch back and forth.

These particular photochromic lenses remain clear in the absence of sunlight, darken to a category 1 when in the car behind the windscreen, and to a category 3 in direct sunlight.

Regular glasses with just vision correction remain clear at all times, requiring a second pair of frames for prescription sunglasses.

What are the main differences between Transitions® GEN S™, Transitions® GEN 8™ and Transitions® XTRActive® new generation?

Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses are good for those who spend a significant amount of time in front of a digital screen, as they’re specifically designed to filter up to four times more blue light indoors than clear lenses.

If you’re severely light sensitive or looking for high-temperature performance or extra darkness outdoors, Transitions® XTRActive® new generation lenses are the ideal choice for you.

They deliver the best XTRA darkness and the best XTRA light protection, even in the car, and are uniquely designed to protect your eyes from the bright sunlight.

Transitions XTRActive speed when going back to clear in a darker environment is already high, but GEN S is even faster. Just like XTRActive, GEN S darkens to category 3, yet this time within seconds, faster and smoother than GEN 8.

To help you choose, don’t hesitate to ask your optician for guidance; they will help you find the best Transitions® lens based on your needs and your daily habits.

Can Transitions® GEN S™ lenses be paired with any frames?

Yes, just like traditional clear lenses, Transitions® GEN S™ lenses can be paired with any frame of your choosing!

GEN S™ lenses are offered in both brown and grey tints, which gives you numerous possibilities to craft a unique pair of glasses that complements your style and showcases your personality.

The new Transitions® brown and gray lenses, when exposed to UV light, are most similar to traditional sunglasses, giving you the appearance of regular sunglasses with the added benefits and protection of Gen S lenses.

Why choose Transitions® GEN S™ lenses?

Many of the benefits tied to Transitions® GEN S™ lenses provide a dynamic reality with their increased versatility, protection, comfort and convenience in comparison to traditional clear lenses.

The ability of these ultra responsive lenses to automatically adapt to varying light conditions makes them versatile and perfect for those who are constantly shifting light scenarios.

Going from the dim indoor lights to the intense bright lights outdoors frequently has never been so easy.

The fact that these lenses come in different colour tints and can be fitted to most glasses frames adds to their versatility. With all the different lens and frame combinations, they can be tailored to fit any style and personality.

The new Transitions® GEN S™ lenses can reach the dark photochromic category 3, darker than previous versions, which creates a higher level of protection against harmful UV rays from the sun.

This added protection helps to prevent long term eye damage from the negative effects of UV exposure, while greatly reducing discomfort and disability glare.

These lenses adapt perfectly to any light conditions and proper darkening of the lenses creates a more comfortable experience for glasses wearers.

Proper darkening of the lenses also helps to reduce glare and eye strain, improving overall visual comfort in very bright light situations as well as long term eye health.

Last, but not least, Transitions® GEN S™ lenses remove the need for glasses wearers to have two pairs of glasses for different lighting conditions.

As they adjust automatically, these lenses are the most convenient choice as they meet daily visual demands of those who need prescription eyewear.

To know if Transitions® lenses are the right choice for you, it’s advised that you speak with your eye doctor to discuss preferences and what best suits your visual needs.

For more information about Transitions® GEN S™ lenses, feel free to check out our Optical Centre to speak with one of our on-call opticians, who can help you to determine if Transitions® lenses are right for you.

Reflect Your Style With Mirrored Lenses

Reflect Your Style With Mirrored Lenses

Sunglasses are not only a practical accessory for sun protection, they can also be a fashion statement which reflects your personal style.

So, whether you’re an avid athlete, a fashion-forward trendsetter or simply someone who enjoys the outdoors, mirrored lenses offer a versatile option that combines aesthetic appeal with practical benefits.

In this article, we’ll explore everything you need to know about mirrored lenses.

We’ll cover their advantages, various styles that suit your lifestyle and essential maintenance guidelines.

What are mirrored lenses?

Mirrored sunglasses are a type of eyewear featuring lenses with a reflective coating on the outside.

This coating gives the lenses a mirror-like appearance, helping to reduce glare by reflecting more light compared to standard tinted lenses.

Models wearing mirrored sunglasses

The popularity of mirrored sunglasses arises from their combined aesthetic and sporty appeal.

The sunglasses exude a sense of modernity while also offering an air of mystery and intrigue.

The interplay of light on these lenses creates a fascinating visual impact that automatically elevates your outfit.

Benefits of mirrored lenses

Mirrored sunglasses, often called reflective shades, offer more than just a trendy look—they bring practical benefits too.

Their mirrored coating not only looks stylish but also improves contrast, sharpens vision and reduces glare, making them perfect for sunny days on the slopes or bustling city streets.

Some mirrored lenses are also great for protecting your eyes and blocking harmful UV rays that can slip through regular tinted sunglasses.

This helps prevent sunburned corneas and long-term damage.

And when it comes to style, mirrored sunglasses come in a variety of frames and tints to match any occasion.

So, if you’re gearing up for a weekend hike, sporty rectangular sunglasses will be the ideal choice.

They provide a high-performance edge, letting you stay focused on the natural surroundings.

On the other hand, if you’re more of a beachgoer who enjoys a laid-back lifestyle, classic square frames are perfect for you.

Their full, oversized shape offers great coverage, shielding your eyes from the bright glare of the ocean while keeping you looking effortlessly cool.

And on a side note, the mirrored finish adds a touch of privacy, so when you’re scouting the hiking trail or lounging on the beach, you can keep those secret glances all to yourself!

Choosing the right mirrored lenses for your style

If you’re still considering mirrored sunglasses but wondering which colour or shape will suit you the best. You are not alone.

Let’s explore which mirrored sunglasses will perfectly match your lifestyle.

Mirrored lenses for active lifestyles

In the world of high-performance eyewear, mirrored lenses are popular, especially among those leading an active lifestyle.

For those who live life on the go, mirrored lenses will be the perfect blend of style and performance.

When you’re engaged in high-intensity activities, like running on a sunny day or cycling on reflective surfaces, glare can be a major distraction and can even impair your vision.

Model wearing mirrored sunglasses

If this resonates with you, consider trying wraparound mirrored sunglasses.

Opting for wraparound sunglasses, particularly those with vibrant blue or striking red lenses, will ensure your eyes are well-protected while allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the excitement of your adventure without any distractions.

And when you’re hitting the city streets, rectangular mirrored sunglasses will offer a sleek, modern touch that’s both practical and stylish.

The variety of lens colours will also allow you to effortlessly match these sunglasses with your preferred athleisure wear or activewear as well.

So, if you have a favourite outfit combo, you can easily match it with different lens colours to create that sporty look that reflects your active lifestyle.

Mirrored lenses for enhancing your casual style

Mirrored lenses are a game-changer for taking your casual style to the next level, particularly when teamed up with iconic pilot frames or chic cat eye designs.

Pilot frames offer a timeless appeal with their teardrop shape and thin metal construction, ideal for both men and women seeking a versatile everyday look.

On the other hand, cat eye frames add a touch of vintage glamour with their upswept edges and sharp angle.

Paired with mirrored lenses, these sunglasses will instantly give your casual outfit a pop of character, making sure you always look effortlessly cool and put-together.

Pilot frames with mirrored sunglasses

Now that you know which frame shape suits your casual style, let’s find out which lens colour will look ideal and give that laid-back vibe.

To achieve it, you should opt for silver or gold lenses as they will complement this aesthetic perfectly.

Silver lenses offer a sleek, contemporary shine that adds a cool edge to your everyday look.

For a laid-back everyday look, pair silver lenses with a classic blue denim jacket or a crisp white t-shirt to add a sleek touch.

Silver lenses also work well with casual sneakers and tailored joggers for a cool, effortless look.

Gold lenses, on the other hand, infuse your casual look with a warm, inviting glow.

They beautifully enhance neutral-toned outfits, such as a soft beige sweater or a light grey cardigan, adding a subtle radiance that lifts your style.

Pair gold lenses with chinos or slim-fit pants for a look that’s relaxed yet refined and they also add a touch of brightness to simple, flowy dresses, making them stand out with a hint of warmth.

Mirrored lenses for a vintage vibe

For a vintage-inspired vibe, consider mirrored lenses in oval or round frames

Oval frames, with their gentle curves and soft lines, offer a more elongated and balanced look compared to perfectly round frames, which tend to be more symmetrical and bold.

Oval frames with mirrored lenses

Both styles have enjoyed enduring popularity for their ability to complement a variety of face shapes and fashion preferences.

These styles also evoke a timeless aesthetic that blends nostalgia with contemporary flair.

If that’s your thing, consider opting for mirrored lenses with a subtle tint like gold or bronze to amplify the vintage appeal even more.

Maintenance & care of mirrored lenses

Mirrored sunglasses require more attention compared to standard sunglasses due to their reflective coating, which makes them prone to smudges and fingerprints.

While some may have a scratch-resistant coating, it’s still crucial to handle them with care.

Always clean them using a microfiber cloth to prevent scratches, avoiding tissues, towels or clothing that could damage the lenses.

When not in use, store them in a protective case to minimise the risk of scratches.

Periodically check for any signs of damage like scratches or peeling of the mirrored layer and think about replacing them if necessary.

By following these simple maintenance tips, you’ll keep your mirrored lenses in top shape, ensuring they remain the perfect accessory whether you’re tackling a rugged trail, making a style statement at a café or soaking up the sun at the beach.

Makeup Tips For Glasses Wearers

Makeup Tips For Glasses Wearers

There’s a common misconception that glasses and makeup don’t go well together, for the risk of one smudging the other

Although it can be challenging, there are several ways in which glasses wearers like you can use makeup to your advantage to increase comfort and the longevity of your makeup, while keeping glasses or sunglasses as clean as possible.

How can I prevent my glasses from messing up my makeup?

Having your makeup and your glasses complement one another and coexist instead of working against each other has to do with the glasses you wear, how you prep your skin and the products you use.

Here are a few useful tricks to get your makeup looking and staying exactly the way you want:

1. Start with the right frames

Getting your makeup and eyewear to coexist all starts with having the right pair of glasses.

Whether you prefer to make a statement in thick, bold frames, or to keep a minimalist style with wireless or thin frames, making sure they fit properly is the first step in preventing your glasses from messing up your makeup.

Poorly fitting glasses can be the cause of many of the common issues we face when wearing glasses with makeup.

Although the bridge of your nose is an unavoidable point of contact, try adjusting the nose pads of your frames to keep them from touching your cheeks, eyebrows and temples to avoid smudging at touch points.

If your glasses have adjustable nose pads, adjust their position to fit a little tighter on the bridge of your nose to avoid your glasses from sliding down your nose and to keep them from touching your cheek.

Asian fit frames are a great option to prevent your glasses from touching your cheeks or sliding down your nose as they typically have larger nose pads, and are slightly angled to keep the rim away from your cheeks.

Beyond the fit of the frames, consider the style and colour.

Based on the shape of your face, your facial features and your skin tone, you can find the perfect pair of glasses to enhance certain features and make your eyes pop. This can be done through seasonal colour analysis.

2. Prep your skin

When beginning your makeup routine, it’s always important to start with skin prep. This step is crucial to having your makeup apply properly and can either set you up for success or failure.

If you decide to wear makeup while wearing glasses, seasoned specs wearers know the struggle of having oily, slippery skin causing your frames to constantly slip and slide down your nose all day.

If this happens to you, the best trick to help combat this common issue is to begin with a mattifying moisturizer and allowing it to soak in before applying other products. Oil balancing skincare is the key to preventing shine and slippage.

3. Use a magnifying mirror

If you wear prescription glasses for shortsightedness, you know the struggle of having to take off your glasses to apply your makeup, then squinting in the mirror hoping that your application is what you’re hoping for.

One way to avoid squinting into your mirror is to get a magnifying mirror to get that up-close look without having to squint or crowd your mirror.

woman using a magnifying mirror to apply makeup

Using a magnifying mirror can also help to avoid the mirror fogging up from your breath when you lean in too close.

4. Don't apply too much product where your glasses touch your face

Dents and smudges in makeup on the bridge of your nose, cheek and temples are the most common touch points where your glasses can smudge makeup.

Some of these can be avoided with properly fitting glasses as they shouldn’t touch your cheek or temple, but sometimes it happens.

Beyond the fit of your frames, the best way to combat these smudges in your makeup is by applying less product, especially less foundation.

Since you’ll be wearing glasses, the bridge of your nose will be covered by your glasses, but applying minimal product in that area will prevent smudging or build up on the nose pads of your glasses.

5. Lift and curl your eyelashes

Long eyelashes are in right now, but this trend can be annoying if you wear glasses as long lashes can rub against your lenses and cause your mascara to leave smudges and streaks on your glasses.

The best tip to avoid mascara-smudged lenses is to prioritise curl over length. Curling or lifting your lashes will bring them up and out of the way of your glasses, leaving your lenses smudge-free.

woman curling her eyelashes

Another trick is to use waterproof mascara, as it prevents black flakes from falling onto your cheek or lenses.

Plus, an added bonus to curling and lifting your eyelashes is that your eyes will appear brighter and more awake!

6. Tame your brows

Your eyebrows naturally frame your face, but glasses can tend to get in their way. Maintaining your brows is a great way to keep them away from your frames.

You don’t want your brows and your frames to be competing against one another, so try to find ways to allow them to complement the other.

If you have a bold frame, go for a simple natural brow. If you wear minimal wireframe or rimless glasses, you can opt for a bolder brow.

Keeping your brows trimmed and tame can prevent them from interfering with the frames of your glasses.

Another good option is to adjust the nose pads of your frames so the glasses sit further from your brow bone.

It’s all about personal preference and finding the right balance that works for you and your style.

7. Finish with pressed powder and setting spray

Last, but not least, finish off your makeup routine with pressed powder and setting spray to ensure everything you just applied stays in place all day long, glasses or not.

As glasses tend to slide down your nose, focus on setting the bridge of your nose and the nose pads of your glasses with translucent powder to prevent the most annoying makeup smudges and dents.

Embrace your style

We’re not saying that you need to wear makeup, but wearing makeup and glasses simultaneously can be a great way to embrace your own sense of style and showcase your personality.

The most important thing is that you feel confident.

Now that you have a few extra tips and tricks up your sleeve, it’s time to experiment, see what works for you and show off your favourite eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Brand Spotlight: Burberry

When it comes to luxury fashion brands, Burberry stands out as a name synonymous with timeless elegance and British style.

Famous for its iconic trench coats and enduring designs, Burberry has been a hallmark of sophistication for over a century.

Beyond its celebrated clothing line, Burberry has also made a big impact in the world of accessories, particularly with its stylish sunglasses and eyeglasses.

In this article, we’ll explore the history of Burberry, tracing its evolution and examining its signature style.

The birth of Burberry

To understand the history of the Burberry brand, we must first delve into the origins of its founder.

Thomas Burberry, born in Brockham Green near Dorking, Surrey, began his journey in fashion as an apprentice at a local draper’s shop.

In 1856, at just 21 years old and already deeply involved in the textile industry, he opened his first store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, marking the start of his entrepreneurial career.

The store, named T. Burberry and Sons, quickly flourished. Initially, his designs were inspired by the attire of the middle class.

However, over time, Mr. Burberry shifted his focus towards creating outdoor wear for everyday individuals and visiting sportsmen.

In 1879, Thomas Burberry made a groundbreaking discovery: gabardine, a durable, tightly-woven, water-resistant fabric made from Egyptian cotton using an innovative process.

Model wearing sunglasses

This fabric not only repelled water but also proved exceptionally robust, prompting Mr. Burberry to secure a patent for his invention in 1888.

Thanks to this revolutionary material, Mr. Burberry gained international recognition and gabardine became the cornerstone of Burberry’s success.

In 1901, Burberry unveiled its most famous garment, the trench coat.

Initially designed for British soldiers during World War I, this iconic coat quickly became a symbol of elegance and functionality and it remains a staple in countless wardrobes today.

In 1924, the Burberry trench coat was also patented, marking another milestone for the brand.

Throughout the 20th century, Burberry expanded into perfumes, cosmetics, footwear and other fashion accessories.

Today, Burberry has branches and boutiques worldwide, including luxury stores at prestigious addresses like London’s Bond Street and New York’s Fifth Avenue.

But what has made the brand so iconic that it can be recognised by anyone? Let’s delve into its signature design.

Signature design

One of the most iconic features of Burberry is its distinctive check pattern.

Introduced in the 1920s, this elegant check design evolved into a symbol of the brand’s identity, seamlessly integrating into a wide range of products, including eyewear.

This classic pattern, with its sophisticated blend of colours and lines, adds a touch of elegance and unmistakably sets Burberry products apart from any others on the market.

Iconic Burberry eyeglasses

When it comes to eyewear, Burberry stands out for its distinctive blend of timeless style and luxury.

The hallmark of Burberry eyeglasses lies not only in their aesthetic appeal but also in their ability to effortlessly elevate any look.

Game, Set, Match: Get The Tenniscore Aesthetic With These Sunglasses

Game, Set, Match: Get the Tenniscore Aesthetic With These Sunglasses

You don’t have to be a professional tennis player to serve the trending tenniscore aesthetic, but you can definitely take some style notes from the pros!

As one of this year’s biggest films is centred around the sport, typical tennis attire is making its way off the courts and onto the streets.

In the heat of tennis tournament season with Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, crisp white polos, tennis skirts and rich green accents are all the rage.

What is the tenniscore trend?

As seen in some of the latest red carpet events and movie premiers, the tenniscore aesthetic takes inspiration from the roots of tennis traditions.

It’s where the dress code at Wimbledon meets the comfort of everyday attire—a sort of elevated athleisure that serves effortless elegance.

Tenniscore is all about blending the old money, ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic with the addition of a sporty twist.

Think about those who went to prestigious boarding schools, grew up sailing or are members of country clubs and yacht clubs.

This aesthetic channels the energy of those who pair a crisp, pleated tennis skirt and cable knit sweater with a diamond tennis bracelet at the country club.

After they finish their tennis lesson at the club, not a single hair is out of place with a cashmere sweater tied around the shoulders, and they’re headed straight for a refreshing gin and tonic.

How to serve the tennis look on and off the court.

Recently popularised by influencers and celebrities, light-hued linens, crisp polos paired with sweater vests and crew socks with athletic trainers are in.

The tenniscore look is the perfect combination of fashion and functionality, where preppy and sporty meets minimal and clean, making it a versatile trend that we can definitely get behind.

When going for the tennis look, focus on clean lines, breathable, lightweight fabrics and a minimalist palette, evoking the elegance of traditional tennis attire with a contemporary twist.

And, of course, remember to include sun visors and sunglasses because accessories are what win the game.

collage with images of tennis inspired apparel

If you’re looking for eyewear to use while working on your backhand, getting the best sunglasses to protect your eyes and block harmful UV rays is essential.

Be sure to choose sunglasses with UVB protection.  For a competitive edge, polarised lenses offer reduced glare from the sun’s rays and enhanced depth perception to better see the tennis ball on the court.

Match the aesthetic with these popular brands:

When it comes to matching your sunglasses to this tennis look, it’s important to consider the brand’s history and reputation, as well as functionality and overall aesthetic.

You can’t go wrong with brands like Lacoste, Fila, Ralph Lauren, Sergio Tacchini or Oakley.

Lacoste

Lacoste sunglasses epitomise the brand’s signature blend of sporty elegance and timeless style.

They offer a versatile and sophisticated accessory for athletic activities or everyday wear, embodying the brand’s heritage of effortless French chic and iconic preppy aesthetics.

Lacoste frames are crafted from durable acetate and lightweight metals, ensuring comfort and longevity, and are suitable for both activewear and everyday outings.

Typically seen in classic colours like black, white and tortoiseshell, Lacoste sunglasses seamlessly blend with the predominantly white and pastel tenniscore palette.

Brand Spotlight: Saint Laurent

Brand Spotlight: Saint Laurent

Saint Laurent, a legendary name in the fashion industry, is synonymous with luxury, elegance and timeless style.

Founded by the visionary French couturier Yves Saint Laurent, the brand has consistently set trends in the fashion world.

Here we explore the incredible journey of Saint Laurent, from its revolutionary beginnings in haute couture to its iconic status in the world of luxury fashion and eyewear.

Behind the seams: the making of Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent grew up in a caring and feminine environment in Algeria. Being raised in an all-female household greatly influenced his sensitivity and passion for fashion from a young age.

At 18, he moved to Paris, where he attended fashion school and won a prestigious design competition, catching the attention of a Vogue executive.

This achievement opened doors for the young prodigy and he was hired as an assistant at Christian Dior at just 19 years old.

Soon after, he was named head designer at the House of Dior after the death of the brand’s founder and namesake, Christian Dior himself.

In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent was drafted for military duty in Algeria, which significantly affected his mental health, and he was fired by the House of Dior shortly after.

This didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream and he opened his own fashion house a year later. The brand introduced revolutionary concepts such as prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear collections), breaking the boundaries of traditional haute couture.

The Saint Laurent Paris collections were groundbreaking, featuring innovations like trouser suits, sheer tops, shoulder pads and the iconic “Le Smoking” tuxedo for women.

Saint Laurent's impact on eyewear

Saint Laurent’s influence extends beyond clothing. Known for chic and sophisticated designs, its eyewear collections feature clean lines and bold shapes, crafted from high-quality materials like acetate and metal.

Saint Laurent’s eyewear is often seen on the runway and endorsed by celebrities, which has helped it become a symbol of high fashion.

Ever since the 60s and 70s, YSL has been known for being avant-garde. This unique style always finds a way to make a comeback, but with an innovative, modern touch.

Saint Laurent continues to push boundaries with its sunglasses and eyeglasses collections, offering pieces that are not only functional, but also elegant.

Classic Saint Laurent eyewear silhouettes

Saint Laurent has long been a leader in the eyewear industry, with fans worldwide. Its collections are characterised by timeless silhouettes and bold designs.

Whether you’re looking for a simple black frame or a colourful statement piece, Saint Laurent has always got you covered.

Oversized & bold

One of Saint Laurent’s signature frame styles is black oversized glasses, reflecting the brand’s history of fearless fashion.

These glasses are a daring fashion choice, while their large lenses provide excellent coverage and protection.

Oversized glasses were initially popularised by high-profile celebrities in the 1970s radiating confidence and elegance.

Perfect for formal events or glamorous cocktail parties, oversized frames remain a staple for those looking to make an impression.

Cat eye glasses

Massively successful among Hollywood stars back in the 1950s, cat eye glasses have been serving glamour ever since.

Saint Laurent has embraced this iconic silhouette, adding a modern twist to the vintage design.

Available in a variety of colours and finishes, its upward-edged glasses offer a playful and feminine touch, perfect for occasions like quick shopping trips and romantic dinners.

Pilot frames

Pilot frames were originally designed for military pilots back in the day.

Now their thin metal frames and teardrop-shaped lenses have become a fashion staple for everyday wearers and movie stars alike.

Saint Laurent’s pilot frames continue this legacy, offering a cool and edgy look with sleek metal frames and a double bridge.

Its pilot glasses collections have evolved to incorporate modern materials and designs making them suitable for both outdoor and indoor activities.

Forever iconic

Saint Laurent continues to lead the way in fashion with its innovative designs and unmatched craftsmanship.

From its famous clothing lines to its stylish eyewear, the brand is a symbol of quality, creativity and timeless style.

Whether you are a minimalist or a colour aficionado, Saint Laurent has something for every style and personality.

Finding the Right Glasses Through Colour Analysis

Have you ever noticed that you get compliments every time you wear a certain colour? Based on our unique combination of hair, eye and skin colour, incorporating certain colours into our daily looks will make our natural features truly stand out.

But how do you know what the right colours are?

The short answer is seasonal colour analysis. What is it and how can we apply it you ask?

In this article we’ll do a deep dive into what exactly colour analysis is and how to use it to our advantage.

What is seasonal colour analysis?

Seasonal colour analysis is a tool that you can use to find what colours suit you best based on your natural features like eye, hair and skin colour.

Depending on your unique natural colour combination, you will fall into a seasonal category; spring, summer, autumn or winter. Each season has three variations, each with its own colour palette.

By going through the colour analysis process, you can determine your season, and have a personal colour palette that, when incorporated into your outfits, will make you look and feel your best.

Your guide to using seasonal colour analysis to find your perfect pair of frames

By understanding your particular colour season, finding accessories that enhance your natural features is made easy.

Let’s go through the steps together to find the right pair of glasses in your colour season to make your eyes pop!

Step 1: Understanding the colour seasons

There are four colour seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season has its own set of colours that complement different undertones and complexions.

Before choosing your next pair of glasses, familiarise yourself with the colour palettes of each season:

  • Spring: go for brighter colours with warm undertones
  • Summer: cool muted shades – think of the beach and the ocean
  • Autumn: warm earthy tones – typical fall colours
  • Winter: go bold with higher contrast and deep, cool colours

Step 2: Finding your season

To find which season resonates the most with you, here are a few easy at-home tests that you can do.

1. Examine your eyes and hair – your natural hair and eye colour can easily point you in the right direction.

Having a cool-toned eye colour like blue, green or grey could be a sign that you fall under a cool season (summer or winter).

Warm-toned eyes like hazel and brown could indicate that a warm season (spring or autumn) would be a better fit.

Similarly, hair colours with warm undertones like golden blonde, light brunette and auburn would resonate best with spring and autumn, whereas cooler-toned hair like platinum blonde, deep brunette and black would align better with summer and winter.

2. Vein and jewellery test – examining your veins and seeing how different jewellery metal tones look on your skin can help to indicate your season.

First, let’s look at your veins. If your veins look blue, then you might resonate with a cool season like Summer or Winter. If your veins are closer to green, you might resonate better with warm seasons like spring or autumn.

Now, if available to you, test some different jewellery metal tones to see which colour best complements your skin colour.

As rose gold enhances any skin tone, try testing both silver and gold separately to see which one makes your skin look more dull versus bright and glowy.

If silver seems to better enhance your features, you might be a cool season, but if gold is more flattering, you’re likely a warm season! This can be useful for choosing metal frames.

3. Colour draping – mess with draping different coloured fabrics around your neck to see which colours enhance your features and make you glow.

Similar to the jewellery test, cool-toned fabrics that appear to enhance your features would indicate that you’re a cool season, but warm-toned fabrics would point towards a warm season.

Step 3: Choosing frames that align

Once you’ve uncovered what you think your colour season is, it’s time to find a pair of eyewear frames that complements your personal colour palette!

At SmartBuyGlasses, we have over 30,000 styles and 300 brands to choose from.

If you’re having trouble deciding, to help narrow down your search, read more about the colour seasons and their variations below:

  • Skin: olive or cool blue undertones

  • Eyes: dark brown or black

In the end, of course, these are just guidelines to help select your glasses, so take our suggestions lightly.

Whether you choose colourful glasses frames or glasses with a neutral colour, just remember the most important thing is that you feel the most confident in any glasses you wear!

The Librarian Look: Eyewear to Match Your Inner Bookworm

The Librarian Look: Eyewear to Match Your Inner Bookworm

The “librarian look” or “geek chic” took the fashion world by storm in the last few years.

Think cosy cardigans, buttoned-up blouses, wool skirts and messy hair, paired with classic glasses to finish it all off.

The influential power of the internet has kept this trend alive, with women dressing in this cute, casual style to express their personality while keeping it professional.

As this unique look continues to gain popularity, one key accessory often steals the show—librarian glasses. But what exactly are they?

What are librarian glasses?

Librarian glasses are all about looking smart and sophisticated without trying too hard.

There isn’t one specific style that embodies the librarian aesthetic; they come in various shapes, each adding its own flair.

These frames have a classic, sometimes retro vibe that complements a range of outfits and occasions. They can be worn by both women and men, but are more commonly seen on women.

They make you look like you know your way around a good book, and maybe even a secret or two.

How to get the librarian look

Achieving the librarian look is about more than just picking any pair of glasses. It involves choosing frames that enhance both your facial features and your intellectual vibe.

Here’s a breakdown of some quintessential eyewear styles that are synonymous with the librarian style.

Cat eye frames

Cat eye glasses are vintage cool and charmingly retro. With their rounded bottoms and flared outer edges, these glasses are perfect for anyone aiming for a look that’s classic yet a touch seductive.

The sultry cat eye glasses heyday came back to the 1950s when many famous celebrities chose this exact style to complement their fits. Since then, they have remained one of the all-time favourites because of their unique charm.

All sizes and shapes of the cat eye glasses look amazing on most face shapes, but especially oval, round and heart-shaped faces.

A classic black pair from Prada adds an extra layer of sophistication, making this style a great choice for those who appreciate a touch of drama in their daily wear.

Tortoiseshell glasses

Tortoiseshell glasses are a favourite for those looking to add texture and colour to their style without being overpowering.

The mix of brown and amber tones mimic the natural shell of a tortoise, giving you a warm, inviting look that reflects the subtle sophistication of librarian glasses.

Some people may say they revoke an “auntie” vibe, but they are a trailblazer of retro classy style. Rectangular or oval shapes in tortoiseshell by Tom Ford are a staple choice and flattering on many face shapes, making these frames a versatile choice.

Tortoiseshell glasses are a timeless piece that effortlessly complements both casual and formal attire.

Thin metal frames

If you’re a fan of simplicity and elegance, thin metal frames are perfect. These frames let your natural features shine while being lightweight and minimalist.

Available in metallic shades like gold, silver and bronze, they add a touch of refined sophistication to your outfit.

Round metal glasses are especially popular thanks to their effortless charm. Ray-Ban offers these glasses in a variety of metal finishes which allows you to choose a pair that best complements your personal style and wardrobe.

If you want to achieve this look on a budget, our SmartBuy Collection offers style, quality and affordability, ensuring you look great without breaking the bank.

Rectangular glasses

Rectangular glasses are a classic in the librarian eyewear world. With thin rims, they provide a smart and clean look suitable for any situation, from a busy day at work to a cosy evening in with a book.

The thin rims, often made of metal or lightweight acetate, give the frames a sleek and balanced appearance. Whether you’re dressing for a business meeting, or heading to meet with friends, these glasses are a great versatile accessory.

woman wearing rectangular glasses

Thin-rimmed rectangular glasses are often seen in movies and TV as part of the attire of two distinctly different character types – the highly intellectual genius and the mysterious, seductive femme fatale.

Whichever style you prefer, Carrera offers a wide range of rectangular glasses from classic metal frames to ones with a modern twist. They combine quality and style and are always a staple choice to portray either precision or allure.

Endnote to bookworms

The librarian-core aesthetic is a charming mix of brains and style, perfect for those who appreciate a classic, sophisticated vibe.

Embracing this look means you can read between the lines and look fabulous while doing it.

Whether you’re channelling your inner genius or mysterious romantic, librarian glasses can elevate any look. So, choose your favourite frame style and show off the stylish bookworm you are!
